Welcome to our latest Newsletter which is a bit shorter than usual. I hope everyone is having a good Summer, though saying that while we’ve had some great weather this year the last few weeks have been rather wet. At least wildlife and gardens will be doing better!
It’s been another busy spell at SEAL Dunfermline with the Summer Programme in full swing. Some of our groups have had outings to Knocknill Go-Karting, a big hit with the young people and others to Blair Drummond Safari Park. Please check out our recent posts on Facebook if you like. The children really enjoyed their day at the Safari Park even although it rained most of the day and I think the group leaders did too! Tom, a local Comic Artist has been providing the children and young people with art session on how to draw and create Superheroes! Tom is incredibly talented, patient and kind. We are so impressed with many of our children, their art work has been so impressive and creative. Tom’s sessions have been funded by the kind grant we received from Carnegie Trust, thank you again.
We also have Puppet-Making sessions starting and all of the children and young people will receive Mindfullness sessions too once term time starts again which is great. Learning mindfulness skills will support the children cope with big feelings and trauma and are a great skill for us all to have. We’ll update you later on how these go.
Our painting and decorating is now complete and the place looks so fresh and inviting, please see our Facebook photos. The Back Garden project is also coming along slowly but surely. We’ve been very grateful to receive support from Fife Council’s Community Payback Team to do some of this. They have been incredibly kind and helpful, thank you so much! In other news our new Website is nearly complete so we’ll share details of this once it’s published and up and running.
Our staff and volunteers work so hard to keep the charity going as do our trustees and local community, we are delighted to welcome our new Volunteer to the team who’ll be supporting the Wednesday evening group. She has started with us already supporting the Comic Art sessions and is amazing at art which is fab!
Finally, given the wet weather, here are some Activities your own children may enjoy on a rainy day
1. Tents or Dens! Who doesn’t recall making tents over the dining room table or sofa with bedspreads, old sheets or blankets. Add a good story book and some snacks and you have a cosy den to coorie up in for the afternoon.
2. Treasure Hunts – Hide your child’s favourite toys around the house with clues to help them find them and perhaps a surprise or treat at the very end
3. Cardboard robots and toys! – Dig out paper, card, pens, paints, glue and see what you can make. Maybe taking inspiration from the World Recycling and Environment Day activities one of our groups did a while back, making toys and robots from cardboard boxes and old packaging which we all seem to accumulate these days.
4. Going to Soft Play or the Swimming Pool (and get really wet!)
5. Local Museums and Art galleries
6. Sensory play, think play doh, or make your own play doh with flour, water and or food dye
7. Get their wellies on and go puddle splashing!
We hope you’ve enjoyed catching up with is in our latest, brief newsletter. As ever if you’d like share any thoughts or ideas please do get in touch. Or if you can help support our work please see our Just Giving page (attached link)
Take care
Everyone at Team SEAL!
